Project Spotlight: Allied Wire & Cable
When Allied Wire and Cable, Inc. (AWC) needed a new building for the main headquarters of their rapidly-growing international cabling supply business, they selected Gorski Engineering to design and construct their new 82,000 square foot facility. The building needed to accommodate AWC's existing office, spooling, and warehouse operations, as well as allowing for future growth.

The Gorski team designed the building to AWC's flow requirements, with multiple product handling areas, and took the project through complex land development approvals, which included securing zoning relief, defining access easements, and renewal of environmental permitting. Construction began in August of 2007 and the site posed several challenges, such as rock excavation and having to work around a stream corridor.

The building is a pre-engineered structure by Butler Manufacturing with a hybrid framing system for the office and entrance area. The 200 foot-wide structure has a 100 foot clear span main frame, allowing for a flexible rack layout. The metal roof is the Butler MR24 standing seam system. The new facility has 24,000 square feet of office space on two floors, which necessitated the requirement of an elevator. The fully sprinklered 58,000 square foot warehouse is illuminated with high efficiency fluorescent lighting and heated by a high-velocity air rotation system.

The 6.5 acre site contains native plantings and bio-infiltration structures, which allow stormwater to be cleansed and returned to underground aquifers.

The attractive front facade features brick and Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) accents, as well as a dramatic two-story main entrance with a standing seam metal roof.

Gorski delivered the sizable and complex project on budget in less than one year from being contracted, allowing AWC to meet their desired move-in date.
